UMA is an architecture practice based in Lewes, East Sussex, specialising in residential extensions, renovations, conversions and full house eco retrofits, with an interest in using low energy breathable building materials to create spaces that are beautiful and comfortable to live in, and don't cost the earth.

02 selected projects
Projects begin with an exploration of how you live and what is important to you, to create a unique brief. The brief is tested through drawings and conversations to arrive at a design that celebrates your home and how you live. Issues from how to provide outdoor space in a townhouse without a garden, to how to super insulate and install a heat pump in an historic home, are addressed with sensitivity to your preferences and a deep attention to detail.

Ursula McGeoch trained as an architect at Yale and Cambridge, where she received an MPhil in Environmental Design.

In addition to residential practice she has worked on award winning cultural projects for Long and Kentish Architects, Nicholas Hare Architects and Citizens Design Bureau including the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester and the Jewish Museum in Manchester.

Ursula is a chartered member of the Royal Institute for British Architects

"Ursula produced beautiful, thoughtful designs for alterations to our 1930s house. She is supremely conscientious, paying a lot of care and attention to the finest detail, which really shows in the quality of the end result. We enjoy both the function and appearance of these improvements every day, and have received favourable comments on the appearance of the house since they were made." - Alison Cotton and Charlie Beer

"We worked with Ursula on our major renovation and extension project on Lewes High Street. It was a big project and Ursula guided us through all the stages from start to building work commencing. Ursula had some wonderful ideas and worked hard to realise them. The result has become a case study for one major supplier. Ursula worked very well with the planning department, suppliers, and the builders, helping to make the whole process as easy as possible for us. Even after one year we still can't believe we have such a beautiful home!" - Loran and Lucy Simon
